Our first school was opened in 1853 in George Willard’s Granary near Rock House in the area the village calls “Little Canada.” Since that time there has been many changes. The communities of Wonewoc and Union Center united to form what now is called the School District of Wonewoc and Union Center and built a high school in 1960. In 1968 a junior high wing was added on to the present high school. Subsequently, the decision was made to attach a new grade school to the existing junior high and high school. This was completed in 1982. After a $600,000 donation came to the District from a former graduate, a $1.2 million state-of-the-art gymnasium was built and dedicated on April 30, 1995. In the fall of 2021, after passing a referendum, a new Tech Ed/CTE wing was added on to the building along with expanding the cafeteria. Many other improvements were also made inside the building. A band/choir wing, a new and improved science lab, and the main office was relocated. The outside of our building also received some improvements. A walkway from the main entrance to the sidewalk was installed to allow our students to safely walk to and from school. A safety fence was installed around the playground area along with a new walkway to the playground.
